grandmother has to sell her home since its too big. will she be taxed for the money she recieves for it just like any ordinary person who sells their home?

This spring break (April 5-12) i’m going north with my grandmother to visit her home state, Rhode Island, and its neighboring states. First off, should we take a plane or drive up? (We both live in South Carolina). And also where would be some beautiful cheap places to visit while on our vacation? We both love photography and plan to do a lot while on the trip, so if you can also think of any photo worthy places, i’d love to hear about them too.
