I am about to buy the council property I live in. Does anyone know for certain, or have experience in buying a council property, and then renting it out? Also, so you know whether I would definitely need a buy-to-let mortgage to do so? And, could I rent to a relative?

So we are renting a cabin for 3 days in big bear, but when I asked the renter to send more pictures of the property she sent me to a side for real estate…I suppose she is selling her home. Can you still rent a home out for a 3 day vacation to someone, but the home is also on the market…? Is that possible??? This will be a long detail of what I’m going through, I’ll try and shorten it as much as possible. I really need some answers, I’m running out of time, and I’ve searched till my eyes burn, and I’ve still not found anything. I’ll start off explaining my situation, i’m sure some of you will think i’m making this up, but all I write; is true.

I left Atlanta on July 29th arriving in the Philippines on July 30th. The reason, to visit my wife & daughter. August 1st was my angel’s 2nd birthday. I originally was only to stay for 2 weeks, towards the end I ended up catching dengue fever, and I had an additional 2 weeks vacation with my company. I was to sick to get out of bed, and my wife went to download the forms from my email, so I could sign them, and she mailed them back. I told my company to use my emergency contact which was my mother, to get in touch with me – if they needed.

After a week, my mother calls me telling HR wants to speak to me, calling them , they claimed they never received the email. After I got irate, they then said they received “something” and claimed it wasn’t my handwriting. Then stated they had already replaced my position with someone else. Though later in the conversation they said I was “laid” off, when I began questioning it, and stated it sounds like retaliation because of how we were paid for overtime. We were paid illegally. I was hung up on.

The costs of the medicine and seeing the doctor racked up, and my vacation money was obliterated, I’m 29 years old. I had no significant savings. I had my sister go to the home I was renting and grab whatever she could fit in her car, to sell for me. But with things as bad as it is in the states, it took months to sell my belongings and money only trickled in. I never had enough funds to fly back to the states, and leave enough cushion for my wife and daughter to live off of.

I was essentionally stranded in the Philippines. I’ve applied at every possible job positioning here in Angeles, Philippines dealing in customer service, and I get rejected due to my experience lands me in upper end management, and no one wants to pay an american in management apparently – I don’t know the reasons I get rejected, I always thought my resume was great.

I’ve got about $200 left to my name, and my family is just about in the same boat as I am. Both my brother & father were laid off. Tommorrow I go to immigration to feed them $40 just so I can be considered legal in this country for another 2 months. Then another $100 in utilities and rent. Never thought I would have to spill my most personal problems on the internet before. But here I am. By January my family will be on the streets and we will have nothing left. A homeless American in the philippines, Who would have figured so a thing.

So I hope there’s somewhere out there that reads this, that Is in the Philippines knows of a way for me to get some work that will keep my family afloat, or anyone else anywhere else in the world, that knows of donation organizations that can help my family stay afloat, until I can get some work here. I am thinking about buying my first home. I am looking at properties around birmingham from £50k upwards. I have little idea of the fees involved.

As the market seems to be slowly growing again, and my job is a fixed term contract… if I bought then had to sell in 12 months, would I make a loss, or would it be similar to renting?

I am not out to make a fast buck on the property market, but dont want to be in a position where I loose thousands…

We lost a long term renter, so we fixed up the property and handed the management over to a property manager. We had to spend a lot on remodeling, but now the income has doubled, even including the property manager’s share. What forms or changes need to be filled out when I do my income tax? It had previously been our primary residence that we were renting while abroad, and would be still, if we ever return to that area.

I am very interested in purchasing property and renting it out but have no credit history. Would that be a problem? Also is there a way you can get money back after it closes escrow. And do those TV programs about buying and selling real estate tell you information thats hard to find out for yourself?

I plan on building a large shop w/10 stalls for 2-3 cars each, I want to be able to rent these out to whoever needs a space to work on cars etc.. What legal issues might I face? I’ve never heard of a problem w/renting out part of my house to friends or whoever, and I even rent out my current small shop to a friend, is this any different?

I am living in Fort Mc and claim LOA. I have my permanent resident in Edmonton (I am renting) and now I m planing to buy a house in Fort Mc. Is there any way I can do this without loosing LOA? There has to be a way around. Can someone please let me know??

I live in New Hampshire and I have been looking into buying a house. It seems to me that when house prices are low, interest rates are high, and when interest rates are low, house prices are high. Is there really a better time to buy a house compared to other times? Someone I know said we should wait because houses are not appreciating very well in the area right now, but, is this true? And is it better to continue renting? The prices in the area are outrageous at best, and I can’t believe that there is ever going to be a time when they are going to be lower. It seems to me that if appreciation continues at any rate, that ordinary people wont be able to afford a house at all. $200,000 plus for a small place seems crazy. Any input on this?

I currently have 2 single family homes which I have been renting (and reporting as such to the IRS) for the last 8 years. I understand the gain from the sale is counted as regular income and I hear that I must also add back the depreciation amts. claimed. Are all depreciation $ from past years counted as regular income as well? Is the gain computed from the amt the home was worth at the time it was put into rental service or the amount paid for the home (since I lived in it for 4 years prior to renting out)?
Is there any way to lower the tax burden since it will not be a like kind transaction, although the funds will be used to buy a vacation home which could possibly be rented out in off season?

I’m thinking about buying property in another state and renting it out for a couple of years, but I do not own any other properties. Would this be considered an investment property for tax purposes or could I file as primary residence, although I don’t live there, but plan to in the future?

The buyer is renting units out of the house w/ out my consent.

One year ago this month we were lured into signing a lease on a property that was suppose to rent to own. I was told that we had to be in a lease a year before transfering it over to rent to own I was also told that the $6500 we have paid in rent would be counted torward the rent to own. However none of this has happened and I recently found out that the person that rented it to me is a real estate broker and he does not even own the house. What are my options Please Help! The only reason we signed the lease is because we were lied into it. I have documentation proving this.

Vacation rental deposits.. whats normal?
I’m looking into renting a vacation condo in New Orleans. I was there last year and stayed in a hotel so i know the area i want, and i’ve found a place that looks really nice (lots of pictures) in the area i want for the price i want. But i’ve never rented a vacation property before and the owner requires a 20% deposit and then the remaining balance paid in full 30 days prior to arrival. she accepts personal checks or PayPaI. I don’t know if this is normal, and i’m hesitate to pay the amount in full before even setting foot in the place. any help or information regarding this would be hugely appreciated!!!!! thanks!
