how long do I need to be on the job in order to lease a house?
I am just starting a new job and my current lease is over next month and I am debating renting a home until I can buy a house.

Your best bet may be to simply renew your lease with your current landlord. Landlords vary on their credit standards, so there is no way to predict exactly. Generally, however, landlords will be more demanding about employment verification for a house than for an apartment since there are greater expenses and greater responsibilities with a house rental than an apt rental.
If for some reason you cannot renew existing lease, you may be better off renting an apt than another house. Also, you will probably cut your costs so you can save more toward your down payment by renting an apt than a more costly house. You’re probably going to need 20% down, plus closing costs, plus 3 – 6 months of reserves to buy in a year or two. There are NO signs that mortgages are getting easier to obtain or will be in the coming few years.
