What can I do if my application to move into a rental property is turned down?

I just faxed an application to a property managment company to apply for a lease on a new home. I am relocating to a new area for the campany I work for and need to find a new place to rent. My concern is that my credit history is very poor and I will not get approved to move into this new house. Although my credit is poor, I am paying on everything on time at the moment and my credit has begun to go back up but is still not good. If my application is denied, is there anything I can do to persuade them to allow me to move in and sign the lease for the property? Money is not an issue and I can even put down a little more than they are asking for with regards to the security deposit or pay 2-3 months worth of rent up front. Would this make a difference? Is there anything I can do?

    Some places will let you move in if you pay a higher deposite or get letters of recommendation from your previous landlords.

    Unfortunately it’s totally up to the landlord and if credit is an issue they are under no obligation to rent to you. The best thing I can suggest is to be up front with something along the lines of “I’ll tell you up front my credit is not so great, it has improved from A to B in the last 6 months and I have no late payments” Offer proof of it along the lines of current rental/payment histories. The problem is a lot of people are hestitant and hold out on disclosing the credit problem after they’ve wasted the potential landlords time by looking at the place which makes them look sneaky. I think up front and honesty along with some hopeful face to face dialog may sway them.
